When the Season Changes
Oct 25, 2025
Two major events happened recently that will change the trajectory of my life. I finished my first book, The Purpose-Driven Principal, and became a "Nana" for the first time. I am grateful, thankful, and excited.
Finishing the book took a lot out of me. I poured years of learning and heart into those pages. Now that it is complete, I feel at a loss for words. Honestly, I didn't even want to write this week's newsletter.
So I set the writing aside for a bit and let myself notice how much has changed lately, both in my world and in the world around me. Fall helps me do that. It's my favorite season of the year.
The leaves are turning bright red and gold where I'm living. The mornings feel cool and crisp. There is a gentle sense of anticipation as we move toward Thanksgiving and Christmas, toward family and friends gathered around tables. This season brings reminders to count blessings and to practice giving, not only with gifts but with our time, attention, and care.
I want to notice the beauty right in front of me. To say thank you for a healthy baby boy. To be proud of a finished manuscript that reflects my heart for school leaders. To hold space for both accomplishment and new beginnings. Life changes. Schools change. Families change. For me, the right mindset is about staying thankful and present. It’s easy to get caught in the rush of what’s next, but gratitude pulls me back to what’s here right now, and that’s where the joy really lives.
I am choosing to celebrate without racing into the next goal. I am choosing to be present with the people I love and the work I am called to do. I am choosing to look for good in every situation and to acknowledge it when I see it.
If your season is shifting, too, I hope you feel permission to slow your schedule just enough to notice what is good. Let the colors outside remind you that change can be beautiful. Let the cool air signal a fresh start. Let the holidays ahead point you back to what matters most: faith, family, friends, and a heart of giving.
I did not want to write this week, and I am glad I did. I want to hold onto this moment. Because weeks like this don’t come often This fall is full of joy and purpose, and I plan to enjoy it, learn from it, and carry its gratitude into the work ahead.
What season are you in right now, and what good can you see in it?
